Ruth Harrison

Ruth Harrison is a senior project manager at The Reading Agency (United Kingdom).

She has worked in the field of literature and reader development for over 20 years. She has been the Director of Apples and Snakes (a performance poetry organisation) and a Literature Development Worker for Windsor & Maidenhead Council.

The Reading Agency is an independent charity whose mission is to inspire more people to read more. It specialises in spreading reading by working with public libraries, and also teams up with prisons, publishers, unions, businesses, broadcasters, and others. It is supported by the Arts Council and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (www.readingagency.org.uk)

Ruth’s role as senior project manager supports work on The Reading Agency’s young people’s as well as adults with low level literacy programmes. Her work ranges from developing projects from initial concept through to delivery; fund-raising and sponsorship; marketing; partnership development and strategic thinking particularly in the area of digital. Ruth’s work with young people includes: YouthBoox a partnership project with the National Youth Agency and library services aimed at socially excluded young people; development of a website for young people around reading and writing (groupthing.org); MyVoice write or wrong? project aimed at young people at risk of becoming involved in violent extremism (in partnership with Creativity, Culture and Education); development of reading promotions such as Manga Mania; development of creative reading activities/projects to support The Reading Agency‘s young people’s work for e.g: in HeadSpace. Ruth is also a trainer for The Reading Agency‘s Participate programme – a service development programme around creating co-produced library services with young people.
